About the Department

Welcome to the Department of Philosophy of Asannagar Madan Mohan Tarkalankar College

Our Institution Asannagar Madan Mohan Tarkalankar College was established in the year 2007 has been a centre of prominence, committed and all round development. Among ten departments philosophy is the traditional one. General course in Philosophy was introduced in 2009. Now Philosophy is being taught in the Programme stream under the ‘CBCS Curriculum for Semesterized Undergraduate Course’ from 2018-19 sessions in parallel to the old 1+1+1 three year Degree course. In CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) curriculum 1.Core Course, 2.Elective Course, 3. Skill Enhancement Courses are taught in six consecutive semesters of six months each. Since then the study course has been generating huge interest in the rural students. In 2022 December, NEP (New Education Policy) has revised CBCS for UG Programmes . Additional classes are arranged to help the weak learners. Project work assigned to students are properly evaluated and thoroughly revised by the teachers during interface meetings and then circulated among the students as hard copies. It provides an opportunity to our students to develop their writings skills and at the same time the chance to update their knowledge on various subject related topics. For each semester we arranged guardian meeting and discuss the problems, if there is any. We want to involve the students in departmental project work. We also want to publish departmental magazine with creative articles from students. In our future plan is an advanced and meritorious student will be given an opportunity to teach in nearby schools during slack session to develop their skills as future teachers. We want arrange many national international and state level seminars/ webinars. Teachers attend and participate in the UGC sponsored workshops, seminars, webinars, refresher course, short term course from time to time and publish articles in journals. Vision and Outlook:

Philosophy is regarded as the mother of all disciplines as it gave birth to all other disciplines. Philosophy is a systematic study of general and fundamental questions concerning topics like existence, reason, knowledge, value, mind, and language. Philosophy is also the study of fundamental truths, principles of conduct, and understanding. In a broad sense, philosophy is an activity people undertake when they seek to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and to each other. It is an epistemic attempt to study the fundamental truths, principles of conduct and logical understanding of problems. It is a speculative discipline with the vision to develop logical, analytical and critical abilities of thinking. It seeks to establish standards of evidence, provide rational methods for resolving conflicts, and create techniques for evaluating ideas and arguments. We all know Logic is an integral part of Philosophy. Logic forms the rational pillars of critical philosophical thought process. Philosophy helps in sharing the ideals, habits, manners, tastes, ways of life and above all the character and personalities of a human being.
