About the Department

History and Bengali departments of Asannagar Madan Mohan Tarkalankar College were started with General courses upon the college's founding in 2007 and were upgraded to Honours courses in 2008. The recruitment of guest lecturers marked the beginning of teaching and learning. 2010 saw the arrival of Sri Nilendu Biswas as the department's first full time teacher. Smt. Mili Paul became a guest lecturer at the department a few months later. Subseque ntly, Sri Partha Roy Chowdhury and Sri Narattam Biswas joined in the same role. The addition of Sri Partha Banerjee (MPhil.) and Sri SujanDebnath as full time teachers and permanent faculty members raised the ante. Three full time, permanent assistant prof essors and three State Aided College Teachers make up the department's current staff. As of July 2022, Mr. SujanDebnath is the head of the history department. In the department's ten years of existence, several students of exceptional distinction have grad uated. In the 2011 University Examinations, UjjwalMajumder came in second, followed in order of success by Narattam Biswas and Sakil Biswas in 2012 and 2013, in order of success by Narattam Biswas and Sakil Biswas in 2012 and 2013, respectively.respectively. Mission:

History Department seeks to make students aware of the present situation by learning from the past. We want to convey history to the students through correct and unbiased view. Currently the department will prepare students for careers that involve research, synthesis and analysis; as teacher and archivist; and for admission to post graduate institutions or professional schools. We want to create a modern and rational element in future generations.

Vision:

The department aims at holistic development of young students and make them future citizens of the nation who are reliable, honest, committed and have a right value system. Our efforts will develop cordial relationship between teachers and students. Will actively prepare students for various inter and inter-college debate and declamation competitions and prepare them for professional life. The department also will be nationally and internationally recognized for training graduate students and producing future master's and Ph.D.

Facilitie:

Since the 2018-19 academic year, the department has had the chance to approve the updated B.A. Hono u rs/Program Course syllabus for the semester by semester CBCS syllabus. With selection techniques like Core Course (CC), Elective Courses including Discip line Specific Elective Course (DSE), Generic Elective Course (GE), and Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), the new system represents a fresh start. Since 2023, the college has been offering four years semesterized programmes (with multiple entry and exit) lead ing to Major, Minor & Diploma degrees in the NEP (New Education Policy by Higher Education Department, W.B ) curriculum. This offers academic flexibility through pools of Major, Minor, Multidisciplinary, Ability Enhancement, Skill Enhancement, Generic Elec tive, Discipline Specific Elective, Skill Enhancement, and Ability Enhancement courses so that the students can select from options at their discretion. Upon enrolment , the affiliated institution grants students the freedom to select their options, and at a later stage of the semesterized system, it continues to provide choices.

Methods of Teaching:

Teaching methods of our Department of History include traditional classroom lectures, interactive group discussions, and question- answer sessions to engage students. The department also uses ICT tools and audio-visual aids like PowerPoint presentations to enhance learning. Extension lectures, regular assessments, and parent-teacher meetings are organized to monitor and support student progress. Special doubt-clearing classes are provided, and during the COVID-19 period, online platforms like Zoom, WhatsApp, and Google Classroom were used for teaching.
