MISSION :

The aim of the Department of Defence Studies is to educate students about the current security challenges of India. Our aim is to present students about the Defence structure of india , National Security,War history , Disaster Management & International Relation. Students will now be prepared by the department for teaching, archival, research, synthesis, application and analysis as well as entry into professional schools or postgraduate institutions. We want to bring out a modern, logical side in the next generation.

VISION :

The department strives to develop young students holistically and prepare them to be reliable, honest, dedicated and morally upright citizens of their country through the studying of Defence & Strategic studies. As a result of our constant efforts, teachers and students in our department will develop friendly relations with each other. We will prepare students aggressively for their professional life and various inter-college announcement and debate events. In addition, the department will be known domestically and globally for its graduate student training programs and for producing future masters and doctoral degree scholars.After studying this particular subject students will gain edge in jobs in defence sectors like Police,Armed forces,Paramilitary and Defence think tanks.This subject is also an integral part of N.C.C.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT :

Defence Studies Department of Asannagar Madan Mohan Tarkalankar College is teaching students in General Course from 2018 to present. SHRI DIPU HALDER is currently teaching as a visiting faculty. The department has been teaching students in CBCS system since its inception. Shri Nilendu Biswas of the Department of History served as the first Head of the Department of this Department. Currently, Shri Dr.Mahaprasad Ghosh of Department of Physical Education is serving as the Head of the Department of Defence Studies .

FACILITIES :

Since the 2018–19 academic year, the department has had the chance to approve the updated B.A. Program Course syllabus for the semester-by-semester CBCS syllabus. With selection techniques like Core Course (CC), Elective Courses including Discipline Specific Elective Course (DSE), Generic Elective Course (GE), and Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), the new system represents a fresh start. Since 2023, the college has been offering four years semesterized programmes (with multiple entry and exit) leading to Minor & Diploma degrees in the NEP-2020 (New Education Policy by Higher Education Department, W.B ) curriculum. This offers academic flexibility through pools of Minor, Multidisciplinary, Skill Enhancement, Generic Elective, Discipline Specific Elective, Skill Enhancement, and Ability Enhancement courses so that the students can select from options at their discretion. Upon enrollment, the affiliated institution grants students the freedom to select their options, and at a later stage of the semesterized system, it continues to provide choices .
